What is a weihnachtsmarkt?

A weihnachtsmarkt  (or Christmas market) is a European holiday tradition originating from Germany, Italy, Austria and France. The history of the markets goes back to the middle ages.  There has been a December market in Vienna since 1294. The markets offer food, drink, and handcrafted goods. Asbury Park’s German beer hall, the Asbury Festhalle and Biergarten, is running their second annual Asbury Park weihnachtsmarkt this year. And Backward Glances will be partaking in the fun on December 10th!

There will be 30 vendors selling holiday gifts, decorations and delicacies . We’ll be there with our ugly Christmas sweaters, retro posters gifts, and unique jewelry. Join us on the roof with its amazing views of Wesley Lake and historic Ocean Grove. There will also be live music, carolers, warm drinks, and ice sculptures. Santa himself will make an appearance.
